Horrible Rule

Why does this keep happening?
In the "horrible Exception" thread we see this:< a network drop last night that caused the app servers to lose touch with the database server.>
http://bugs.tribenetwork.com/thread/ba3dfd08-8eaf-4f37-aada-7aa47df32835#6d0fd35c-75fd-4422-b7f6-2edef4509e83

Is this happening every night, then?

My workarounds are starting to fail me. Clearing the cache, clearing cookies, opening new windows...it's getting harder to recover from the java issues. Are there any other tricks we can use to break through the horrible exception, which has become a *Horrible Rule*?
(thank you, Craig)

In posting on one tribe, the post doesn't show up after leaving the thread. Go back ~ it's there. Go back to the main page ~ nope. Tribe menu looks static, too.

contacting tribe.net

Sorry if this has been answered recently, but I couldn't find a recent post on it. But for over a year I've off and on tried to contact Tribe.net to delete a Tribe. I gave up for awhile, after asking about it here and just getting "yeah, it happened to me too" and figured eventually this would be resolved. But I tried again and got a bounced email (help@tribe.net). So I tried feedback@tribe.net to ask there and got that bounced too.

Are there any ways to contact Tribe.net?

To all those who helped me in my last post. It's all gone now, as far as I'm concerned.

I still do think that contact emails should contact someone. ~;) But my problem is resolved. Any bandwidth issue that might be involved in a pointless unused tribe is someone elses problem now. Tralala

Instead of my friend's blogs it was asking me to invite my friend's to tribe. I tried editing the module but that didin't help. I deleted the module... and went to "customize your homepage" to add it back, and the option isn't availble. What the heck happened?

I have been invited to join a tribe. I was sent the link and when I click on the link I get the following:
++++++++++++++
The Requested Action Cannot Be PerformedYou have attempted to do something that is not permitted according to this tribe's security configuration.

This may be due to the fact that you are not a member of the tribe, or you have tried to modify a posting in the tribe that is not modifiable. You may only modify postings that you originally wrote, and that have not been replied to. Please return to the Tribe Card and check your membership status.
+++++++++++++

Is the issue with tribe or with the sender. Others that were sent the same invite to join have not had a problem getting in. HELP!!!!!

We finally have determined the most likely cause of the current problem with logging in without Remember Me checked and will fix this tonight, at midnight.

The site will be down for approximately 15-30 minutes, if all goes well. The site may appear offline and give "server not found" errors if you try to browse to it. I will update Twitter as soon as we're done.

Thanks for your patience.

The End of Tribe

I am sorry to say, but Tribe is spiraling into obilivion. There are so many problems day to day that thousands of members have moved on to other network sites, hundreds of tribes have been abandoned, and not too may people bother to log on any longer. If the owners of this pitiful site do not spend time or effort in caring for it, then it will disappear. If there are no users to read ads then advertisers will stop paying and it will fail very soon. Paid memberships are not the answer. Months ago Tribe tried to use paid memberships to bolster revenue, but it was a waste of time. The site still sucks. It needs new ownership. It needs people who know how to run a social network site, generate advertising revenue, and pay competent staff to keep it going. Failing new inspired owners with some marketing skills, expect this place to be abandoned for good...

This is ridiculous

Tribe,
Well, for two days now I have tried to log into Tribe. I am able to simply log in, except when it states "over capacity". After I log in, I cannot perform any other function WITHOUT being booted out. Nada, nothing. When I try to log back in tonight, it still states "over capacity", and it takes four times to simply log back in.
Please, please, if you have a service and network, simply get it up and running, and KEEP it up and running. It's a complete waste of time to have to LOG back in every time you move from one function to another, then get stuck four times in a row with this "over capacity" stuff. Please get the service fixed. Thanks.....

I think somone might have stolen my identity and changed my password and/or email address, but I moderate the Politics tribe but for some reason I can't log in. I had to create a new account so I could post this and ask for help. I've emailed Help@Tribe.net several times asking for help but I haven't received any. Politics has a lot of activity and there are some recent troll complaints that I can't address since I'm not logged in as moderator.

Any suggestions?

momentary tribe crash?

I just wanted to open my tribe page (I stay logged in, and had just read it 10 minutes before) and found myself signed out and was asked to log in. So I did and got the horrible exception page. I closed and reopened my browser window and my tribe homepage was there no problem. So far I have seen this happen only when tribe was under maintenance. Do you do maintenance jobs now that last only a few minutes or was this some other bug? I don't think I have ever had that happen before. "Horrible exception" was just that, so far- donut time. The server that is working now is sloeginfizz, if that is of any help.

First of all, thank you for all the hard work you are doing in keeping this place running.

I happen to really like it here.

I always see in the bug reports that tribe is "over capacity"
what IS the capacity? How many people or operations can go on at one time? is there an actual number?

just curious.

I've seen the over capacity page twice, but I've been able to click the back button and click on a link again, and get to where I was going.
No problems with posts sticking.
Page loads seem a little slow at times, sorta normal around here ; )

Only a tribe generated password works...

Yep. I've found that the only way I can log in is to pretend I've forgotten my password and have tribe generate one for me, then I must also click remember me to stay logged in. Even if I change passwords and use the new password, it won't work and I must play the same game again to get on. Even if I don't change the password, sometimes I must still generate a new password to log on. And yes, a new tribe generated password has worked each time, the first time.

Tell me this isn't odd.

tribes opening into photos

I recently looked at the photos in a tribe. I later opened the tribe's topics but now most (although not all) of the time when I go to a tribe it opens into photos. There's no DSL (and a very slow line speed) in this neck of the woods so it takes a long time to switch to topics for every tribe I visit. There may be a setting I'm missing somewhere but it's looking like a bug so far, esp. since this has never happened before when I viewed photos (although the set-up on tribe may have changed since then). I searched related terms and couldn't see anything and am rarely on this tribe, so any relevant link would be appreciated. Thanks.

Does tribe.net have a plan for the future?

In my humble opinion tribe.net is the most unique, artistically open, social networking site on the internet today. Sadly it is very apparent that either the hardware or the programming creating tribe.net is in no way capable of sustaining the tremendous amount of demand the world wishes for. While I am grateful for the efforts of the people behind tribe.net I feel I must ask on behalf of many, many tribe members, do you, the people behind tribe.net, have any future plans of action to actually remedy these issues in such a way as to make tribe.net a viable competitor to other leading competitors? or should those of us that enjoy this community simply call it quits on tribe.net because creation of a fully functional social network is beyond your capability or monetary capacity? If it is beyond your programming abilities have you considered a "open source" option. If it is beyond your monetary capacity, have you considered scaling down and charging a fee for use of the site? What other options are there to make this network function?

>>Uh oh...
This server is currently over capacity

We apologize for the inconvenience, we're working hard to build more servers! This server should return to normal in a few minutes, or you can restart your browser to relocate your session on another server.

If you were in the middle of posting, you can retrieve your work by clicking the back button and highlighting the text, then copying it (ctrl or command C) and pasting it into a new window.<<

i am getting this constantly on many different servers the past few days.
and no amount of cookie clearing, browser closing or voodoo ritual is helping.

I am not sure if i am posting this in the right place, so please bear with me. Whenever I try to invite some of my friends to a tribe and the list appears, there are of course alot of members with the same username. This makes it really difficult to invite the right person. If there was a way to differentiate between all the Toms and Rays that would be great. Maybe show thier icon in the list?

Thanks Guys

The event is not over and I have that in there, from your options....
I saw it in the groups I had posted it to and then when I re-checked the event and the previous one i listed are gone.

essentially negating the posting purpose..I checked other events posted in the events section and one other from another is also not showing up in the groups posted to, but all the others are still listed in the groups.

Thank you,

very slow sign on to the tribe.net

Hi all,
A while back I came on this tribe and asked for assistance because it was taking me a long time to sign on to tribe.net and a long time going from one screen to the next on tribe.net. The suggestion was that I switch servers and I did switch to FireFox. That solved me signing on to tribe.net, but pretty soon I was having all sorts of other problems - FireFox kept crashing and it became difficult even to delete emails. Another thing that drove me nuts was that I couldn't copy and paste things from my word processor to an email or from an email to word processor. I called Hewlett Packard, renewed my warranty for $100 and they talked me through setting my computer back to its factory settings and all the problems are gone. Was this a rip-off and/or an inelegant solution?

Without wishing to convey an attitude of entitlement or start a flame war, I'd like to report that I've tried over and over to upload a photo to my album today, with no luck. The two servers involved were hotnun and sloeginfizz and I tried from both Firefox and IE if that makes a difference.

I can post photos into a tribe, I can edit the titles I gave them but I cannot edit the description. I can click on that button but then the page jumps back to the top instead.

Links within Comment Messages

Not the biggest thing in the world..

When a comment is placed on an image on tribe, that comment is Cc'ed via Private Message to the person who posted the image.

That PM contains a link to the picture which has been commented on.

When you access the picture via the link contained in the message , you cannot comment on the picture you accessed via the link.

In order to comment, you have to access the picture by going to the tribe and then accessing the picture via the tribe's album, rather than directly from the link within the PM.

In the past, you used to be able to comment after using the link within the PM.

(does that make sense ? Hope so...)

All of a sudden there's no topics in any of my tribes, including this one, even though it says there are all these unread posts. There are no posts, or topics. I shut down the puter and logged onto tribe again- same thing.
I'm using 32bit windows vista and inet explorer. Help. I'm lost without tribe. I have no life. I'm an internet loser. I may have to slit my own throat and jump down my neck unless I can get back to tribe and communicate with my own kind. Pleeeease don't make me talk to real people! Ghah! AAAaaiiieee!

tribe.net partially going down?

I just wanted to click on a trbe to read the postings and got to a "post a message" page instead. So I closed it, reopened the page and found myself signed out. So I googled my own profile, it said "sign in" and the usual "error geenrating content" instead of the photo album like when tribe is almost down for maintenance, and it took me about 5 times of opening and closing and now I am back in.
Is there bits of maintenance going on unannounced?
Been on julep, then mojito which worked fine, back on juleop now, but I did not look what servers were the ones down, I was too shocked.

Graphics look good to begin with and then totally mess up shortly thereafter. Huge type faces in completely different fonts from normal, completely reconfigured pages. What's up?

I just got the 'temporarily unable' error, and realized that it doesn't have any info about either the status twitter account, or other places to look for information about the problem.
Also, many users don't know about refreshing their browser, unless they frequent this tribe- so it might be good to have those instructions on the same error page, unless you don't want to have extra traffic at times when something is malfunctioning.

Today while I have been _trying_ to play on the Politics tribe, I keep getting bounced out of the tribe and it's saying I'm not a member. when I log back in, sometimes it shows me as a member, but sometimes I have to log back in 3 or 4 times before it will recognize me.

I have been a member of the Politics tribe for 4 yrs.

I don't want to jump through a bunch of hoops on this; I want it _fixed_.

But seems to be getting worse...
You're in a tribe, making a response,
and you get signed out without realizing it.

It SAYS tribe automatically signs you out
after 60 minutes; which seems like a good
thing to me...
but it kicks you off WAAAAYYYY before 60 minutes...
more like less than 20....
any way, Carolyn, to fix that timer?

slow sign in, etc

For months I've enjoyed signing onto yahoo.tribes (or whatever this whole site is called), built up my home page, blgged on it, added images onto my home page, enjoyed looking for different tribes, reading old posts, current posts of those tribes.
The last 7 days or so (starting around July 14th) it takes 5 or more minutes to do each of these steps.
It takes 5 or more minutes to sign onto the yahoo. tribes site. Once I get on, then if I want to look at my list of tribes to see if there is any new postings, that takes 5 minutes. Then when I want to see what other new posts there are on other of my tribes, it takes 5 minutes.
When I say it takes 5 minutes, it's because the little circle going around on the upper left side of the screen - just above the orange "tribe" sign - keeps circling around and around.
I don't find any difficulty with any of the other sites on my favorites - just this yahoo.tribe site.
Any suggestions?
Thanks to anyone who can help.
Rennek

Today when I try to submit a blog comment, first my own blog, then later someone else's i get the page "an error occured", I try again and it says "you have insufficient privileges" so I write and submit it a third time, and in the end all three comments are there on the blog, all the same...The second time the server was sloeginfizz tribe inner.

What are "inner servers"?

My friend isn't being recognized as my friend

I get one friend's blog and picture updates on my home page and she shows on my friends list, but when I go to her page there is an "add to friends" button instead of "remove from friends" button. She asked me if I saw her recent pictures, but when I tried there was an error message "Insufficient Privileges
You have insufficient privileges to take this action"
So, I added her again, she accepted again, but still the problem persists, her blogs and pictures that are designated visible only to her friends are not visible to me.
It's been going on for a few months.
Any ideas on a solution?

it just happened a couple times that when I open a tribe, instead of the threads I see the recommendations where the thread titles should be. Every title has several stars in front of it and clicking it leads to a recommendation or review of something. Clicking on my other tribes produces the same thing. Closing and reopening the browser fixes it. Never happened before.

I'm on pinklady right now, and I've noticed this happen once, just a few minutes ago. I'll post something, the time is off from the clock on my computer. Then someone else will post something, and it posts beneath my post (I use 'newest first').

Noticed this a lot over the weekend...anyone else noticing this?

Tribe.net is temporarily unable to handle your request due to system maintenance or capacity problems. Please try again later. "

Just seems weird as it is around 5 am in tribe land....

Has happened the last couple of nights .. if I log out.. and log in again it normally comes good.. I assume because I switch servers when I do that..

As the title suggests already, this is to notify you that the "someone has joined your tribe"-mail server gone crazy again.
Someone joined one of my tribes today and I got 8 (eight!!!) notifications instead of the usual two (which is always one too many but I have gotten used to that)
Same thing as during the disaster that summer when so many members left. Something gone very wrong when you hooked up that new server, it seems.

I just wrote a response in a thread and when I clicked "submit" it said:"This action cannot be performed. One of the reasons could be that you are not a member of this tribe" and so on.
Aghast, I checked my home page, the tribe was still there, with new postings, went back to the tribe, it still said "Ask a friend to join", so I rewrote the posting, clicked submit and it worked. Oof! Is tribe.net playing tricks on me or was that the moderator teasing?

When I am in a tribe, and I go into a topic, at the bottom of the thread, I will see all the other threads of that tribe.
But in some tribes, this is not the case.

Carolyn, since you are now a member of the T1T tribe, you should be able to see this. That is the tribe I am speaking of.

I am not sure if there is a setting somewhere that I am missing.

Title truncated in tribe alerts (quite annoying...)

Dear Tribe.net

(I have also sent this to feedback@tribe.net).

All in all Tribe.net is a great place, but there are some annoying bugs here and there...
One of them is that the title of a listing is truncated to 47 characters in tribe alert e-mails!

Best regards,
Henrik Rosenø

Just Lost Friends' Blogs and Local Posts

I have never had this problem before. None of my friends' blogs are showing up in the space for that on my home page tonight. I just have some box with a message about how my friends' blogs will appear there. Same with the local posts module.

Also I am getting an "error" message when I try to submit this post. I am hearing from other people that they are having this same problem tonight as well

Lost "recent postings" modules

Both on my profile and on my home page. Happened earlier, after some weird thing happened on my computer. Said something about a "system failure" and that the computer was waiting for the debugger???

I would have taken a screen shot, but nothing worked at that point.

"read postings"-settings and "answer in the middle of a thread"-settings

This is something that has puzzled and bothered me for a long time:
in some tribes I get a notification that there are like 25 new postings and when I read a couple of those and go back to my homepage, all those new postings are no longer marked as such, I have to dig up the tribe from "my tribes" if I want to read the rest of them, and try to remember which threads were new or contained new postings, myself.
On other tribes, tribe.net keeps exact track of what I have opened and what I have not read yet, and the new postings count goes down little by little, as I have time to read. Which I find much more user-friendly.
Also, in some tribes, I can answer a posting in the middle of a thread and my posting will end up exactly below what I answered. On other tribes it is a hit-and-miss-gamble, sometimes the posting is in the right place, sometimes a few postings down, sometimes at the bottom of the thread- completely at random, it seems. And of course, if it ends up at the bottom in a longish thread , even though I clicked on "reply" below the posting I am answering, nobody knows what i am refering to.
Why does this work on some tribes and not on others? Can this be fixed?

Earlier tonight, I tried posting some responses
to posts in tribes, and everytime I did, I got an error.
I gave up and called back now; only to find that
the posts that did not "go thru" went thru;
in fact several times each....

Not exactly a bug but rather annoying!!!

The positioning of the button for the Share/Save function is very invasive.
Accidentally hover in that area and a huge drop down appears until one moves away from it.
Maybe require an actual click or move it to the right of the poster's name.
