Better now?

I've stayed logged in, even after walking away for hours.
I've seen the over capacity page twice, but I've been able to click the back button and click on a link again, and get to where I was going.
No problems with posts sticking.
Page loads seem a little slow at times, sorta normal around here ; )

How about you? How is your tribe experience today? (technically speaking...)

as this evening comes on, over capacity seems to still be happening. But if only 750 people can get on, i guess that may be a more permanent situation.

      nope

Had to give up on a PM. Not much difference, imo. I think fewer people have been on today, which would account for some ease up. I don't think this maintenance session is going to do it.

Too early to tell, but I've also had the over capacity page...

I have had it several times. And it is very slow. Had it just now when I clicked to submit this.

A had it, but a little penicillin cleared it right up.

Wait, what are we talking about?

          to denisey:

out of curiosity, what did you think would be better considering
Tribe's session issue update issued today:

"Tonight's maintenance does not appear to have fixed the issue with staying logged in without checking remember me. We are in contact with former employees to resolve this issue and will post more information as soon as possible.

So, for now, only using "remember me" will keep you logged in."

            To wildapache:

I had no thoughts on anything being better other than people staying logged on, because they have checked 'remember me'.

The subject line of "Better now?" is a blanket query, not an expectation.

There are many problems with the site, but the main one I'm concerned with right now is the login problem. So far the only thing I have found that seems to explain it is that the load balancer's system clock has fallen out of sync and is running about 40 minutes fast. Thus it sees the temporary cookie as expired as soon as the webserver sets it. Resetting that clock will require taking the site completely off line, which I will probably do tonight.

The capacity issues are legacy problems with the java code and limited database connection availability that will be addressed best with the new release, but I do what I can to babysit the servers for now and get them going again when they're down, even though there are notification systems and restart scripts in place, etc etc. If anyone has a better solution for that you're welcome to come on board and take a look.

      Hi Carolyn,

Thank you for attempting to fix this problem. How come you can't simply reset the load balancer's system clock without taking the whole system down? Tribe needs a "reset synced caches" command methinks...

In any case, how much notice will we have before you bring things down?

That's what it says according to the F5 documentation, but I'm waiting to hear back from our network person for a second opinion:

To set the time back on a BIG-IP Controller, perform the following procedure:

        1. Reboot the controller and start it in single-user mode. [...]

I suspect there is a self-protection feature here so that the time can't be changed easily and break other functionality.

If I decide to do it tonight, I'll give a couple hours' notice, likely it won't be before midnight. I'm also looking for a way to extend the temp cookie time so if I can do that, then I'll just take the app servers off line one at a time.

Carolyn, thank you for being a class act here about this situation. I'll try to talk with programmers I know here on the east coast, tomorrow, and see if they can offer assistance of any kind.

We appreciate your efforts. We know you've got a lot on your hands with this site. Speaking as one of the die-hards, I think putting up with this stuff is worth it if there's a good-running site at the end of the tunnel. I've found nothing else out there like Tribe!
