i know there are threads on here already about this...
and i know i'm not the only one frutrated about this.
will the "listings i've posted" bug ever be fixed? it's been going on for months now, seems like. i have several listings i'd like to take down, as they fulfilled their purpose, but i can't. it just seems like a waste of server space of whatever (don't blast me, i have no understanding of the tech side of things, i know it's got to be a doozy or it'd be fixed by now).
it just seems to me that this is a neverending problem.

Re: will the "listing bug" ever be fixed ???
Thu, May 1, 2008 - 10:38 AMListing expire automatically after 30 days.
If yours haven't, they got posted as requests rather than as listings. Requests never go away. Yes, that's a horrid design... I fought very hard against it when we first released the recommendation system, but I lost.
If you posted regular listings, I posted a workaround for deleting them a few threads ago. -

Re: will the "listing bug" ever be fixed ???
Thu, May 1, 2008 - 12:29 PMTo be honest, I have no hope of this getting fixed. I actually have no hope of even getting a status update on this bug. It is really frustrating given how long it has been around. I wish I had a different answer. -

Re: will the "listing bug" ever be fixed ???
Thu, May 1, 2008 - 11:04 PMi learned long ago not to make "requests", as they never disappear... ack.
and although it's true that listings disappear in a month, it is maddening to me to not be able to take them down... especially when their purpose is fulfilled in a couple hour's time. it's a waste of time for everyone involved past that point. i have posted listings stating that the previous listing is void.... suck.
and it must be a waste of space on the tribe.net servers?????
it does seem like there has been no answer and no update for this long-running bug. it must have mojo, or benefit tribe in some weird way?????
i wish we all had a different answer. -

Re: will the "listing bug" ever be fixed ???
Thu, May 1, 2008 - 11:08 PMI think Tribe has skewed their priorities right now, but I can see why that is... they want to encourage premium members by building shiny things.
And yet, I just told you how to delete your listings. Did that work for you? -

Re: will the "listing bug" ever be fixed ???
Thu, May 1, 2008 - 11:32 PMLook for a very similar thread with the title "Removing Listings". It's new, so it should be easy to find.
Follow the link in that. -

Re: will the "listing bug" ever be fixed ???
Thu, May 1, 2008 - 11:35 PMok, i found the thread... but i'm sorry, i still don't understand what part of the URL i'm supposed to plug in... it's not obvious to me, and i sincerely apologize in advance for my ineptitude. i have tried copying various parts of the url in, and it does nothing... -

Re: will the "listing bug" ever be fixed ???
Thu, May 1, 2008 - 11:50 PMone of the links for your "workaround" doesn't work, either.

Re: will the "listing bug" ever be fixed ???
Thu, May 1, 2008 - 11:56 PMGo view your listing and look at the URL. Do you see a big long string at the end that looks like this:
abc98f55-a2a6-4ab9-b5eb-0c6b705f44e7
That's the listing ID. Grab it.
Take this string:
sanfrancisco.tribe.net/template/pub%2CDeleteListing.vm?messageid=YOURID
and replace YOURID with your message ID. -

Re: will the "listing bug" ever be fixed ???
Fri, May 2, 2008 - 12:18 AMok, thank you... i think i got it. for tards like me, that's quite a process... sorry.
but this begs another question-- doesn't this method mean that anyone at all can delete any listings at any time? that seems odd to me too.
i appreciate your help very much. but i would still like to know if this bug will ever be fixed? is it being worked on or is this the fix itself?
thanks again. -

Re: will the "listing bug" ever be fixed ???
Fri, May 2, 2008 - 12:21 AMYes, it's an annoyance. No, it doesn't mean anyone can delete anyone's listing-- the code looks and says, "Nope, you don't own that listing. Keep your grubby paws off of it."
This isn't a fix. It's one user (not a Tribe employee) showing you a workaround for a bug. I have no clue WTF Tribe is planning to fix, as I haven't worked there for two years now.

Re: will the "listing bug" ever be fixed ???
Fri, May 2, 2008 - 12:25 AMand btw, i am a premium member, and have "sponsored" several people to premium tribe memberships... i love tribe, it is the most useful networking site i have yet found anywhere. i want to be supportive of it. i don't think any of the "premium" people i know, including myself, are all that interested in shiny things.... just in getting bugs like this worked out properly.
a schmoo like me wouldn't know what a shiny thing on a computer is anyway. you'd have to explain it in steps like you did here. -

Re: will the "listing bug" ever be fixed ???
Fri, May 2, 2008 - 12:27 AMok, patti, thank you again so much... i didn't realize you weren't associated with tribe... your familiarity and knowledge dazzles me...
*humbly bows* -

Re: will the "listing bug" ever be fixed ???
Fri, May 2, 2008 - 9:16 AMThanks. I worked for Tribe for almost three years-- from before it launched until about two years ago. (I'm not a premium member and won't be because I figure I've put enough of my blood, sweat, and tears into the site to be worth way more than a few bucks I might throw at the site.) I still know my way around the internals of Tribe well enough to understand where and how things break, and how to get around a lot of the problems. And a lot of people still think I'm an employee-- I regularly get mail asking me to help with some problem or other.
