This is something that has puzzled and bothered me for a long time:
in some tribes I get a notification that there are like 25 new postings and when I read a couple of those and go back to my homepage, all those new postings are no longer marked as such, I have to dig up the tribe from "my tribes" if I want to read the rest of them, and try to remember which threads were new or contained new postings, myself.
On other tribes, tribe.net keeps exact track of what I have opened and what I have not read yet, and the new postings count goes down little by little, as I have time to read. Which I find much more user-friendly.
Also, in some tribes, I can answer a posting in the middle of a thread and my posting will end up exactly below what I answered. On other tribes it is a hit-and-miss-gamble, sometimes the posting is in the right place, sometimes a few postings down, sometimes at the bottom of the thread- completely at random, it seems. And of course, if it ends up at the bottom in a longish thread , even though I clicked on "reply" below the posting I am answering, nobody knows what i am refering to.
Why does this work on some tribes and not on others? Can this be fixed?

Re: "read postings"-settings and "answer in the middle of a thread"-settings
Sun, June 21, 2009 - 11:13 AMStrange -- I don't think there are different settings for that sort of thing anywhere. My experience is that the new messages are indicated until you check the tribe from your homepage, and then the new message indication goes away. If you get to the tribe from some other link (from another tribe, for example), the new message indicator remains.
As for threading, that depends on how you have the view set for that tribe, but it's tracked only by the time of the post and what post it's replying to. If you can send some examples of tribes that behave one way and other tribes that behave differently, I can try to see what you're seeing.

Re: "read postings"-settings and "answer in the middle of a thread"-settings
Sun, June 21, 2009 - 1:59 PMOn mine, if I check any of my tribes, even if I don't read any of the new postings, it is no longer marked as new. I am surprised that yours sometimes keep track of what you read!
